Gujarat HC discharges ex-cop from Sadiq Jamal Mehtar encounter case
AHMEDABAD: Justice Gita Gopi of the Gujarat high court on Friday discharged former deputy superintendent of police (DySP) K M Vaghela from the 2003 Sadiq Jamal Mehtar encounter case.
With Vaghela’s discharge from this controversial two-decade-old case, seven of the eight accused cops have been discharged by the court for want of evidence of their involvement. Vaghela had to approach the high court after a special court rejected his discharge plea. His advocate, Virat Popat, argued that Vaghela should be granted the benefit of parity with the others.
